Nam Dinh Insurance Company (now known as Bao Viet Nam Dinh) was founded in 1980 with predecessor of Ha Nam Ninh Insurance Representative Office. Despite of various changes in name (Ha Na Ninh Insurance Company, Nam Ha Insurance Company, Nam Dinh Insurance Company) due to territorial adjustments, the entity has always been confirming its reputation of a leading insurance institution trusted by people from all walks of life after 24 years of operation.

In first days of its existence, the company just launched certain single services such as passenger accident insurance, agricultural insurance, automobile vehicle liability insurance, etc. Afterward, it has kept on diversifying services to exclusively meet the local need of insurance. In 2003, Bao Viet Nam Dinh became a full member of Vietnam Insurance Corporation-the special-ranked State-run enterprise with services covering liability insurance, property insurance and human insurance, including 25 different types. In 2004, Bao Viet Nam Dinh would adopt the direct compensation; stop the insurance payment for students and teachers as well as individual lives through district education insurance divisions and district insurance offices so that its position could be raised.
